PHX Terminal 3 Modernization

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Terminal 3 Modernization

In 2014, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) began a three-part modernization project for Terminal 3. The project, budgeted at $590 million, was designed to provide a more efficient way for travelers to move throughout the terminal and improve the overall travel experience.

Intellient was contracted by the PHX Aviation Department to manage all technology and special systems for the design-build effort. Intellient was responsible for budget development, systems design/design assist oversight, systems delivery, integration, testing, and commissioning management. Intellient also provided airline systems coordination for Operational Readiness and Transition (ORAT) activities.

Project Details

The Terminal 3 modernization consisted of three phases.

Phase 1 included a consolidated security checkpoint, additional ticket counters, increased capacity for baggage processing and additional baggage claim carousels, expanded access to concessions and retail, and an expanded curb for passenger drop-off and pick-up.

Phase 2 consisted of South Concourse renovations, including updates to passenger spaces, expanded gates, and additional concession/retail space.

Phase 3 then shifted to North Concourse renovations, which included construction on both passenger and apron levels, gate renovations and an overall expansion.
